M/S/A - Whereas Mission College is offering online classes to hundreds of students each semester including an online program (degree?) in Paralegal Studies
Whereas the AFT Contract assigns the Distributive/Distance Learning DDL Committee oversight of Distance Learning at Mission College
Whereas the DDL Committee recognizes that many students require technical support logging into their online classes offered by Mission College
Therefore the DDL Committee proposes the policy that all online instructors provide DDL Committee access to each of their online classes. This access would be used for the purpose of aiding students with logon problems and other technical difficulties.

Re: Online Classes for Fall 2006 - Certification to teach - Deadline - August 15, 2006
As you know, the DDL Committee has been established under Article 40 of our new AFT Contract and by contract it is oversee that faculty are qualified to teach online.
We are writing this memo to inform you about a recent change that will impact online classes. Most faculty offering online classes utilize ETUDES as the district adopted this system. ETUDES is a course management system that provides teaching tools for assignments and quizzes, and assists the online faculty with course management of their online class.
ETUDES has improved and changed its system and by the Spring 2007 all ETUDES classes must be transitioned to NG ETUDES (New Generation ETUDES). There are no options to this transition; therefore, the DDL committee will be assisting all online teachers in making this transition smooth and successful. There will be training available so please make sure that all faculty who currently teach and/or are interested in teaching online classes attend this training. This training is not an option but mandatory if instructors wish to continue teaching online in Fall 2007 using ETUDES. Of course, if they have expertise and access to another course management system, then the DDL can certify and qualify those faculty to teach online using an alternate course management system such as WebCT, Blackboard of the like.
Qualification by DDL for each individual online faculty who will teach should be completed no later than August 15, 2006 for the Fall 2006 Semester.
We appreciate your understanding and participation. We will keep you up-to-date regarding the training sessions and will try to have several sessions so that we can try to accommodate your schedules. Should you have any questions do not hesitate to contact David Jordan, DDL committee chair.
Sincerely,
David Jordan
