Minutes of 10-27-06

1. Training for Students - David and Vilma will complete the rough draft of the training/orientation for new online students. Student Services and Joe Ramirez will be contacted to see what is the best schedule for the workshops.

2. Online webpage at lamission.edu - the committee discussed the need to update the online page. For instance a FAQ should be added, along with links to help students contact the online faculty. Each onlne faculty needs a web page which is uniform in look, and which includes phone and email contact information. Resolved, and moved by the committee: That the DE Committee request IT give it ftp rights and access to the lamission.edu/online page so that the DE Committee can ensure it the online page is updated with current information from the DE Committee.

3. IT representative - the committee discussed the importance of having an IT representative attend our DE meetings. The DE classes need web-based management systems that only IT can recommend and develop. Resolved and moved: That the DE Committee contact Hanh Tran and see if IT can appoint a representative to our committee to attend our meetings, and to assist in developing new web-based manangement systems for DE at our college.

4. Recruitment and Promotion - the committee discussed that new 2-3 new DE classes should be developed each year under encouragment and support from the DE Committee. Resolved and moved: That the DE Committee work with Dean of Academic Affairs in developing new online classes.

5. Listing of DE classes in the class schedules - Richard Rains suggested that the DE classes be listed, as an alterative class for students to take, under the on campus class listing. Also David talked with the Dean of Academic Affairs and requested that the DE Committee be given the pink galleys listing of DE classes to ensure that faculty are trained for the upcoming semester, and to do the Tech Content Review of new DE classes.
