present: Vilma Bernal, Myriam Mekelburg, Paul Mckenna, Richard Rains, Eric Rettke, David Jordan, Said Pazirandeh - Meeting called to order at 8:15 am
1. Rubric - The committee decided to establish an ad-hoc sub-committee, for developing a rubric to be used for the content review required of the DE for new and existing online classes - see links for rubrics at http://abogado.pbwiki.com/content-rubric . Said, David and Paul will work on this project.
2. List of Online Faculty and Online Classes - The committee had a long discussion about maintaining a list of online faculty and online classes. Said and Paul suggested the list be updated each semester, and that it be provided to Academic Affairs and Department Chairs. David suggested also developing a process involved with the list. It should include the faculty name, the discipline, the date the curriculum was approved for online, the online seniority status, the class or subject matter, the course management system, the date of certification for that and other course management systems, and the date of the DE/Curriculum content review of the class . To ensure the list is updated regularly, a mechanism and procedure needs to exist with Academic Affairs during the galleys process to ensure all new online courses and online faculty are listed and updated to the DE List.
3. Development of Online Degrees and Certificates - The committee agreed to establish an ad-hoc committee, and a Pilot Project to encourage new online faculty and new online courses, along with new online degrees and certificates. Myriam will be the point person on this project, along with Paul, Said, Vilma and Eric. Said suggested we look into encouraging hybrid classes for math and science.
4. Student Orientation to Online Classes - December 13 - Vilma and David will give the first hour long orientation to students who want to or are planning on taking an online class. Myriam said she can participate at the noon session. Any other DE members are invited and encouraged to attend. This is our first orientation, and it will become standardized to assist with student success in their online classes.
This will take place in LRC 205 on Weds. December 13th, at noon for day students and 7 pm for students who work during the day. Vilma will contact Olga in the President's Office to place an announcement in the LA Mission Weekly bulletin, along with having it placed on the lamission.edu website. Eric suggested that a work request be submitted for him to help collect the names of students who register for the winter and spring online classes and to send a group email to promote this event. Also Student Services will be contacted to seek their support and assistance in promoting the training to interested students.
5. FTP rights to lamission.edu/online - The committee in its last meeting resolved that it would seek ftp rights to the online page to ensure the page is updated and maintained current. Since Eric was appointed by Hanh as the IT representative on DE, the committee has appointed Eric to maintain the page, and a work request will be submitted for Eric to update the current online page to list the Winter and Spring 2007 classes. The page must be kept current for online students since lamission.edu is their main source of communication.
meeting adjourned at 9:20 am
