present: Myriam Mekelburg, Said Pazirandeh, Vilma Bernal, Paul Mckenna, Richard Rains, David Jordan
started: 8:15, concluded 9:15 am
1. Load Limit Policy - Paul indicated that the current AFT contract expires on 6/30/08, and that in Spring 2008 negotiations will start which will include DE issues. Richard agreed to provide an inquiry into the online survey for AFT negotiations re full time faculty load limit, and will contact the AFT for their position. Said will look for an email from the State Academic Senate last semester about this issue, and David will contact Trade Tech about their policy. We will also contact the Mission Rep for the AFT contract negotiations. The Committee did not want to pass a policy similar to Trade Tech without first finding out more about the issue. Any motion on the matter was premature until we obtain further information on the issue.
2. Office Hours on Line - Paul mentioned the AFT contract, and he will check the language on "consultation". Said said that he had talked with the VPAA about "Virtual Office Hours" and that providing a date, time, and either chat, phone or email would be acceptable for our online instructors. It should be included both in the instructor's syllabus and also at lamission.edu/online website for all of our online students. Myriam will draft the language for the Office Hours Online and the committee will look at it in our next meeeting.
3. Etudes NG FY 2008-2009 contract - Paul indicated that Mission might receive a reduction in its current bill for etudes ng, first because we no longer need to provide "archives access" to etudes classic, and based on our current usage that we might qualify for a level 1 or 2 user instead of a higher level.
The committee felt that we should maintain more than one course management system to our faculty, and that current ng faculty have many students taking their classes, and etudes ng is working very well. Paul will draft language regarding a recommendation to continue with the renewal and suport of etudes ng course management system.
Vivie Sinou was contacted by David, and she will provide us with an estimate for FY 2008-2009 so it can be presented to the Budget Committee in early Spring 2008.
The Committee will meet on 11/23/07 - the Friday after Thanksgiving at 8:15 am for a short meeting to follow up on the above three matters.
We will have one final DE meeting before the end of semester in December - on 12/14/07.
