The DE Committee has discussed and resolved the following matters:
1. Any class which substitutes time in class for time on the internet will fall under the review and approval policies of both DE and Curriculum. If the on campus class just uses web based materials then no review or approval is required by DE or Curriculum. Such classes are "web enhanced" and are not hybrid, or internet classes.

Approval process of online classes was again revisited, and the Chair of the Curriculum Committee added the following language to the DE Approval Process found at the curriculum website - see http://www.lamission.edu/curriculum/distanceeducation.aspx
here is the language: NOTE: DE classes CANNOT be scheduled in the galleys until all approval from Curriculum and Distance Education Committees have been obtained.
severalSeveral online classes scheduled for the Summer Session were canceled because they did not meet the above required approvals.

2. A list of approved training and certification steps has been posted at - http://missiononline.pbwiki.com/training - Faculty need to receive training and a certificate before they can teach online. The certificate needs to be filed with the DE Committee. Copies of certificates are maintained by Paul Mckenna of the DE Committee.
3. All online faculty are encouraged to provide a syllabus and textbook to be posted at http://lamission.edu/online for prospective online students.

2. Discussed the CMS Training and certification process. Paul will prepare rough draft of a new policy that certification is to include a review and approval also of the shell for each new class even when a faculty member has been certified.


 


3. Faculty can now post a syllabus at http://lamission.edu/directories and the Technology and Staff Development Committee, through David Jordan and Curtis Stage will hold some trainings for faculty on this new system.
