Inquiry into how to place your class online

Thanks for your inquiry about putting a class online.

There are a number of steps to take to put your class online

1. Discuss this with your Department Chair, Curriculum, DE, and VP of Academic Affairs re the nature, content, practicality, and college and student needs for such an online class - fill in the Proposal to Place the Class Online and obtain the necessary approvals - proposal

2. Update the course outline of record, and submit the one page form for an online class - see http://lamission.edu/curriculum

3. choose the course management system you would like to use - we currently are using coursecompass, webtutor, moodle and etudes ng

4. get trained and certified in the system - Moodle has an online training from @One starting in October - Monday, October 15, to Friday, November 9 - http://www.cccone.org/de/07fall/courses/index.htm#MOODLE

5. Upon completion of training - then you provide the DE Committee with the certificate

6. You then start uploading your materials to your webpage or the course management system

7. Upon uploading the content, there is a content review of your online class by Curriculum Chair, DE Chair, and your Department Chair - see http://lamc-ddl.pbwiki.com/content-review-rubric

8. Upon approval of your online class, your Department Chair may then (and only then) schedule the class through Academic Affairs.

The earliest you can offer an online class at this point is Fall 2008 since the Winter and Spring 2008 schedules are now almost complete.

Thanks for your inquiry, and please let us know what we can do to assist you with this.
